We have found materials to read about various artists and movements in contemporary art on sale in the bookstore. Yes, reduced prices for members can add up to a large savings. For certain artists there are worthwhile purchases to make if only to help visitors remember their visit to the museum. This is not to say that the bookstore is selling only picture postcards. It is more than that for the bookstore while not pretending to duplicate or challenge the purpose of the library does have merchandise to help people recall their visit to the museum. Particular artists prepare well designed packages of readings with pictures of what was seen in the gallery. While the book store is not remotely close to being a library there are collections of numerous writings and biographical materials as well as reproductions pertaining to the contemporary art that is on display during particular exhibits and at other times. Much might depend on whether you are interested in reading words in the form of essays about the artists who some times provide autobiographical materials for museum visitors to read. If you want more than essays or autobiographical materials these can be found in various forms. Much depends on what the artist leaves and authorizes others to say and make on his behalf to be sold at book stores like this one. Particular artists leave well designed packages of memorabilia in various forms worth taking with you before going home. We have found that if certain artists appear in person and explain their art to visitors than chances are good that they themselves do a good job to market themselves. In recent years recordings of music performed by small ensembles at the museum were on sale in the book store. Do not leave the museum without visiting the bookstore if you want to know what you can take with you to recall the artist and his work. The book store has books that speak about design of the museum itself and its history. There are books that deal with the entire movements called modern or contemporary art. Usually in front of the bookstore there are items for sale at reduced prices. Discount prides do attract members and others.Yes the book store become a souvenir shop of sorts and does offer merchandise like calendars and what certain people might describes as trinkets and less important or less substantial merchandise. Clothing items are there too - not a total wardrobe but t-shirts, caps or other things that can be used for many purposes to remember the artist and the museum. That is the principal function of the bookstore. The writings in a thick book of essays with pictures as part of the recent exhibit that took place in Cleveland as well as in Akron and near by places dealing with the American city might have been the best for us. This book store can be for certain people more quintessential to visit than the coffee shop in many ways. There are certain intellectual benefits for going to the book store and purchasing materials there. Enjoy it.
Q:
How much time do I need to set aside to see everything here?
A:
It should take about two hours or so. They have a nice cafe, so you might want to add more time for a snack.
