This is a vast site with huge ruins and a lot more to excavate. The road to Caracol is getting tarred and in dry season it'd be easy even with a standard two wheel drive car. I'd say about 2/3rd is… Full review by Supratik

Q:
I would like to visit Caracol in August but we do not have a 4wheeldrive (SUV). Do you think that would be a problem.
A:
A regular car can drive up there - just go slow Gravel road but it’s pretty good and it’s a fantastic ruin
Q:
Any place for a large group of folks to get lunch near the ruins?
A:
Yes there are picnic tables. However you must bring your food and drinks. No restaurants or vending machine

hi, how much time do we need to explore the site: let's say from 9.00 am onwards? Is it possible to drive in? do we leave cars outside? My plan is: San Ignacio->Caracol-> 3 hours( enough?) ->rio frio (1 hour max)--> rio on Pool ( 1 hr ) -> 1000 ft falls( 30 min there)- big rock Falls ( 1 hr) -San Ignacio Pleas let me know if this is possible in 1 day - we will have a 4x4 car :)
A:
Definitely do-able. Just leave for Caracol really early (I got to the ruins at 9am and had the entire place to myself). The sun rises around 6am when I went in July, I left at 7am.
Q:
Is this place close enough from cruise ship port to schedule a tour... Nancy
A:
No, it’s a 2 hour drive from the port to San Ignacio and then another 3 hours from San Ignacio to the ruins. Stay a night in San Ignacio.
