Beautiful hike. Ascent less than a mile in total but pretty strenuous. Pay off in amazing views. Make sure to book in advance - you can't buy tickets at the gate without reserving them first (a … Full review by Bob J

Popular trail requiring advanced reservation to park in the crater and hike to the top of Diamond Head. Go early in the day to beat the crowds. Incredible views of Honolulu and nearby Waikiki Beach. … Full review by TravelingSoccerLoon

It depends on your level of fitness/stability on uneven surfaces. The beginning of the hike is a very easy to walk trail but there are rockier parts as you move along. The stairs are tougher to climb but there are handrails and you can take rests on the way. There were people half your ages having to rest along the trail!

We are visiting in Late August with a 18mth old and 11,and 8 year old boys. We feel the hike is not suitable for us, but would like to see this site. Is there any point to visiting if not doing the hike up. Is there nice park facilities or other nice areas of interest to spend time at here. Or do we give this area a miss? Thank you

I did see kids with parents hiking Diamond Head. I did see people wearing shoes that is better worn at the shopping complex. To some it is a moderate hike, to some it is an easy hike. I guess just go if you happen to bring your kid for regular hikes but if not, better don't. Nothing much to do at the base. But before you entering the tunnel to Diamond Head's car park, there is a public park that you can jog.

HI there, it really depends on the child. Some 4 year olds would be able to do it quite easily where others maybe not. It really does depend on the kid. You know your child best so its up to you to determine if your 4 year old is up to it Some things to keep in mind; it is a long trek, there are some very steep stairs, I can't remember any rest rooms and it is along way without any food and water, unless you bring your own. Just some things to consider
