I am planning a trip to Okefenokee Swamp early next month. Based on other reviews the Swamp Loop Drive is definitely on my to-do list, but it seems that most visitors drive the loop. Is it okay to hike/walk the loop? Note, I jog 4-5 miles everyday, so the distance is fine, but wonder if everyone takes the drive instead to avoid "close encounters" with wildlife as the alligator?

The loop is great to drive, walk or bike. Keep in mind the daily temperature next month. Also the observation tower is a walking trip on a boardwalk that brings you in just above the swamp. This adds mileage to your hike also. There are also a couple of actual hiking trails there also. Your trip could be a drive, a hike or too, and a very early drive to the boardwalk to see the early morning wildlife. Park opens just before dawn.
Q:
Can you still rent a small boat for the day and tour on your own?
A:
They had boat tours, but they liked like they were guided.
