Brilliant jazz bar in the Old Town part of Edinburgh. I went to see the French jazz singer Anna Vanosi. Both she and the venue were fabulous! The venue was old school, subterranean and very cool. … Full review by livingthedreamreview

I would give 5 stars but due to an incident with one of the doorstaff during the Fringe Festival I’m forced to give 2. Best Edinburgh music venue with an amazing ginger beer and great musicians. Hope… Full review by Martin R

Hi there, A 15 year old would be allowed on the premises until 8pm only. By law the age restriction is ages 5+ until 8pm, then 16+ until 10pm, and then 18+ for the rest of the night. However, we operate this as our age restriction being 18+ only from 8pm onwards. During festival times where there are shows on with specific end times we are able to allow 16 and 17 year olds to attend shows after 8pm as long as the show ends before 10pm. We are able to do this as the audience vacates the bar after festival shows, but we are unable to do this for our normal running as the audience would be allowed to remain until the end of the night if they choose and so we cannot track minors to make sure that they have left at the correct time. I hope this helps, Edith Kyle

Hi there, The Jazz Bar is perfect for a small gathering for a 70th birthday celebration, but it does depend on what you would like to organise as we unfortunately are not able to accommodate private parties. We normally do not reserve seating but if the birthday celebration was at a quiet time for the bar we may be able to make an exception for a small number of people. I would reccommend if you have never visited The Jazz Bar before to come in and have a look at the same time you would like to attend for the birthday celebration to get a feel for the atmosphere and determine if the venue would fit your needs. You can visit at any time and take a look inside without having to pay the entry fee (simply speak to the staff member at the bottom of the stairs), but if you would like to stay for longer to listen to the music or stay for a drink we would ask that you payed the fee at the door as this money goes to pay our bands. If you have any further questions please email us via the address on our website (we're not allowed to post email addresses here). Thanks, Edith Kyle Director
