A unique opportunity to learn how lighthouses work. Amazing views across the coastline from the top and a real insight into the perils of sailing around here. Our guide, Angela, was really engaging a… Full review by P0well6

I guess it was a must-see or we wouldn't have driven over an hour to get there, Sadly, the weather didn't really permit us to explore for very long - biting cold wind (more like a gale really) and ir… Full review by AnneHaslam
Only in the shop ( typical & hypocritical) Not allowed up the stairs, nor will they watch over your pet. Rubbish. Left after an hour’ s walk without climbing it.
Does the car park at Portland Bill have a max headroom please

I am spending 4 days in Weymouth in July and was wondering if there is bus transportation to and from the Lighthouse from my hotel called the Cumberland. I would like to bus to the Isle of Portland and do some walking around and then bus back to my hotel - is this feasible? Thank you in advance.

Judy - as you say it is geared towards the car traveller but I do know that there are Explorer type buses for most if not all sections of the route. South west coast path. (all one word)+ org.uk has extensive details but see also attached: Local buses - getting around whilst you're here Local buses run a fairly regular service along most of the coast, meaning that there are many sections of the path that you can do a day’s walk, without having to retrace your steps to the path. To help you find out times, on our walk maps you can find the nearest bus stops, and clicking on these will bring up timetable information. Alternatively visit TravelineSW or Google maps which have very useful trip planners. If you are using the bus, it is better to catch it out a the beginning of the day, rather than the end, as that way, you’ve no worries about missing it if you end up taking longer than you anticipated, or if you are quicker not having to wait for it. We have walked circular walks but again always used the car.
