However, highly recommend you reserve a spot in advance on recreation.gov in order to guarantee entry. This is a very popular attraction and most walk-ins are turned away

You can do that or book an outing from a tour company and they will pick you up from your hotel and drop you off when you’re done. Not a bad idea.
