I was really looking forward to this but it was disappointing. We did not go for the sunset or to see through the telescopes that might have helped. We read it was crowded so went for the opening T… Full review by 855lisaw

My partner and I spent a great time in Griffith Observatory. We have been together for a year and the day I came here was our anniversary! We enjoyed the scenery from the observatory. But if you are … Full review by Edith L

It’s iconic, cheap and worth the drive. But it’s super crowded and parking is a bit of a hassle. Long line of cars to get in. You can park for free further down the hill, either in a lot or along the… Full review by MarshalltownMan
Is parking impossible during weekday afternoons? I’m wondering if it is even worth trying or if I shoul just park at Greek Theatre and take an Uber to the observatory? I’m open to other suggestions as well!

We just tried to visit tonight (Sunday), and we couldn’t find a spot. There was a performance at the theater as well. Wish we knew about the DASH bus — could’ve avoided the disappointment. We’re going to give that a try next time we’re in town.
Can you walk around the outside (like the walkway etc) on the days that the actual observatory is closed (tuesday to thursday), or is the entire place closed?
A:

Yes., I believe so. Only the dome where you watch the films are in the Samuel Oschin Observatory. This part was closed when we were there however the rest of the building was open. This is where the exhibits are located as well as the viewing area of the live image of the sun. Unfortunately, the viewing apparatus that you look into for the solar image was broken down. The facility is free of charge. Parking near the building is expensive however you can walk up in which case that would be free too. Only the Samuel Oschin Observatory has a charge for watching whatever show they have on. The telescopes are outside. Get in line at or before 6:30pm., otherwise you may have a long line. There are also 5 or 6 telescopes outside on the lawn which are just about as powerful as the big Zeiss. Hopefully you'll get to see some planets. Fall is best for Jupiter and Saturn viewing apparently. Hopefully this helps. Great for kids, very educational.
