Uber or rental car is your best bet. Well worth the visit, expect to spend about a good hour or more on the grounds if you don’t attend mass or go to the upper gardens, doing all three will be a good 3-4 hour visit.

It will be chilly but well worth it. The Christmas decorations they display are wonderful. It will be busy and parking could be a problem so get there just before dark.

While dogs are not allowed on the upper level, they are allowed outdoors on the first level, both in the plaza and in the botanical garden. The Grotto holds special events throughout the year, including a Blessing of the Animals each July. Well-behaved leashed dogs are allowed.

The first level is free. The second level is five dollars totally worth it!
