Three people were killed Wednesday afternoon when a car went around crossing gates and was hit by a freight train south suburban Harvey. The car went around the crossing gates for the CSX freight train tracks at the Park Avenue crossing near 153rd Street and Park Avenue.

The car went around the crossing gates for the CSX freight train tracks and ended up being dragged almost two city blocks. Jermont Terry talked with a father who lost his daughter in a similar incident on the same tracks in 2022.

A driver went around a lowered crossing gate about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday near 152nd Street and Park Avenue, police say, and was hit by a freight locomotive. All three occupants in the car were killed.

Harvey officials are speaking out following a car vs. train collision in the suburb Wednesday that left three people dead.
