Most unilateral transtibial amputees who were successful prosthetic ambulators will master bilateral amputee gait if a transtibial or more distal amputation can be performed on the contralateral limb.
In this study, we used quantitative gait analysis to characterize the walking pattern of persons with bilateral transtibial amputations. The knowledge gained will bene-fit prosthetists when prescribing prostheses to this popula-tion and help researchers better understand the limitations of current prosthetic technology.
