Drawing on body surface - FreeCAD Forum
Nov 6, 2023 · In most other CAD programs, I'm able to draw a sketch directly on a body/surface and dimension the sketch to features on the body/surface. I can't seem to get this to work right in FreeCAD and it's the last function I would absolutely demand from a professional CAD software. Has anyone managed to get this type of function working?

I have received a large STEP file with 50-80 parts, which all loads fine to illustrate the 3D construction. Nov 10, 2013 · I created a page in the drawing workbench, inserted an "Orthographic projection", I clicked the views I would like to see. The problem is, it is rotated 90 degrees. May 24, 2015 · If you get the drawings from your friend in some 2D CAD format (dwg, dxf, etc), it'll be fairly easy to model on top of it (check the Arch tutorial). If there is a 3D model already, even in mesh format, it's even better, but be aware that architecture models are not always very precise in their dimensions.

May 16, 2016 · Following the tutorial, I was able to complete the text in 3D. It was not attached to the base that was drawn and was a 2D wire frame before extrusion, which led me to believe that I could place 2D text on an object and either pad or pocket it into the face it was on. I even tried to copy the resulting 2D text into my drawing. Seems logical.
