plot explanation - Why is Prince Hans so helpful towards Elsa?
Prince Hans' main motive is to become King of Arendelle. To do that, two things must happen first: He has to marry Princess Anna ('As heir, Elsa was preferable, of course, but no one was getting anywhere with her.' So he turned to Anna). Queen Elsa has to die. After Elsa flees Arendelle and Anna follows her Hans' plans are put on hold.
Why does Hans still lie to Elsa before trying to kill her?

Hans and the Duke of Weaseltown (and his guards) can be excused because they are from somewhere else (presumably outside of Norway). Of the palace guards, maybe two of them have blonde hair, when really 5 out of 6 guards should be blonde haired based on statistics. A group of gawkers as the snow rolls in, not a blonde head among them.
