Muzzleloader or shotgun slug for moose - Hunt Talk
Jul 4, 2012 · Got a moose tag this year and deciding on using a 50 cal muzzle-loader or 12ga slug shotgun. Range would be under a 150 yards, more like a hundred. Like the idea of having backup shots with the shotgun. Never used a slug barrel, although I have a couple of muzzle blasters.

It took maybe two second for it to drop. I shot it with a 230-grain FS. I have also done the same thing by hitting the moose to break the shoulder (at 200 yards). The results have been the same.

Mar 19, 2019 · Moose under pressure are much different than moose not being pressured. If you are scouting or the outfitter has scouted and you are there opening morning or are the only hunter in that drainage that month then e-scouting is useful. Look for riparian, marshy zones. If pressure is there though critters will scatter.

Jul 8, 2015 · The moose can be bigger on average, but not necessarily more plentiful. Big moose are found just about anywhere. Personally I would look at the interior units 20 and 25. Easier logistics, more transporter options, can be less expensive, and generally a higher moose population. The most challenging part of those far flung hunts is dealing with meat.

May 19, 2016 · I took two moose both 7mm stw rounds shooting 140 gr partitions they did a fine job on them. I haven't ever shot the bergers but thought of trying them. Now mostly shoot the barnes 165 gr ttsx and have been super impressed out of a 300 win.
