Jul 21, 2021 · It will probably take a dye based stain to get that wood dark. Alcohol based dyes work best in this case. Leather dye or Stew Mac's guitar dye works good. Probably others too. I finished an original birch E2 stock that was stained but not waterproofed. You need either oil or varnish to waterproof the stock.
