Nissin Raoh is probably the best quality ramen that's somewhat widely available in the states. One of my western markets even stocks it, and most Asian markets do. However, Nissin Raoh is just plain noodles and broth (of good quality) - it's really meant to be dolled up with toppings. That may or may not be what you're looking for as a gift.

It’s also part of the problem with the “ramen” restaurant boom in America. Places like furious spoon bastardizing the name in every way and continuing to muddy the definition. My other favorite is the tonkatsu/tonkotsu mix up here.

At the Tom Thumbs in Texas they have just the noodles on the shelves in the asian sections. They're straight like spaghetti noodles are. For the instant noodle packs, the Sapporo Ichiban ramen noodles seem the best to me for both flavor and texture but they'll run you $1 per package of ramen. You shouldn't throw the flavor packs away.

Oct 26, 2023 · The suggestion of frozen fresh noodles are good, but if you are specifically looking for dried noodles, look for air dried ones (vs. fried). Nissin Raoh, Maruchan Gold, Myojo Chukazanmai, Prima Taste, Marutai and Shin Light are some air dried options with noodle textures I really like.
